Red Carpet Tango Festival: The Aftermath

By Laura Tate 2 Comments

Las Vegas Red Carpet Tango Festival

The aftermath of the Las Vegas Red Carpet Tango Festival at the LVH was sleep.

I only attended the milongas, (due to the fact that the workshops, like most festivals, had 40 to 50 people in each one) but certain friends of mine took workshops, gambled in between, went to the milongas, and private after-milongas that lasted till 6 a.m., and then gambled until 7 a.m.

It overall seemed to be a successful event, with what looked like about 300 to 400 people at the milongas. On Saturday night of the event, a very small group of us stayed after 2 a.m., plugged in our smartphone into the speaker system and danced till 6 a.m. on Sunday.

A highlight of the event was the Tango Trio Garufa, whose music was wonderful to dance to. As well, Pepe Motta was their performing, and, according to one attendee, he played the piano during the master workshops, while three tango teachers oversaw the students. The students said it was a great experience to dance to live tango music while practicing.

There are so many names of maestros involved that I will not list them all here, but among them were: Jorge Torres and Maria Blanco, Gabriel Missé and Analia Centurion, Facundo Posadas and Ching-Ching Pen, as well as our local Angele Echeverria and Julie Friedgen, were a few of the many teachers there.
