Tango and Great Food a Perfect Mix

March 10, 2015 by Laura Tate

gran casino bakery and cafe culver city

Note: this milonga has closed since I wrote this post, but the restaurant is still open offering its delicious food. Sunday Jerry Perez Gallego and Christine Lopez Urgell celebrated the 3-year anniversary of Milonga Grand Casino at the bakery and cafe of the same name in Culver City. Many local dancers turned out for the fete, as well as some out-of-towners, including Andrea … [Read more...]

Red Carpet Tango Festival: The Aftermath

Buenos Aires in Los Angeles

March 11, 2012 by Laura Tate

It starts at 7 p.m. … [Read more...]

August 21, 2011 by Laura Tate

After a more than month-long hiatus from dancing tango in Los Angeles, I broke back into the scene Wednesday night at Milonga El Floridita. What a nice reentry it was, with a live performance from Maria Volonte, who sings in a wonderfully beautiful voice. It was such a treat and for only $10! She's an award winning singer and anyone who can hear, and dance, to her music … [Read more...]

Crazy Tandas

July 23, 2011 by Laura Tate

At a recent visit to El Encuentro, or the Tango Room, I had a great time dancing and hanging out with friends. But one thing confused me--as well as some of the men I dance with--we could not distinguish when a tanda ended...so sometimes I would end up dancing six or seven songs with one person until we just looked at each other and said, "That's enough!" Also, the songs in … [Read more...]
