Tango Musicality Bootcamp 5 with Joaquín Amenábar July 9 & 10 in Los Angeles @ Downtown Dance & Movement

Save the date for the BEST Tango musicality classes you will EVER take! “Tango Musicality Bootcamp” Taught by Joaquín Amenábar, Author of the book/DVD “Tango: Let’s Dance to the Music!”

July 9 & 10, 2016, Los Angeles

Joaquín Amenábar’s first four Tango Musicality Bootcamps in LA had record turn-outs and transformed the way many of us think about Tango musicality. The workshops were a revelation for all levels of dancers, and everyone—from the newest beginners to the most advanced veteran tangueros—experienced a significant improvement in their dancing. Plus, they’re MAJOR fun!

Extremely fluent in English, Joaquín offers a remarkably clear and easy-to-understand method to open our ears to the essential structures of Tango music. He is a social dancer, bandoneón master, composer, arranger and musical educator from Buenos Aires. He teaches these workshops all over the world. Don’t miss them–they will radically improve your dance! Joaquín is a MUSIC teacher for tango dancers. He is not a DANCE teacher–you will not be learning steps, although you WILL be dancing, not sitting.

ABOUT THE WORKSHOPS
• Relevant to dancers of all levels, from beginners to professionals and teachers.
• Material is non-theoretical; we will be MOVING and DANCING 90% of the time.
• Emphasis on individual work; no partner needed for workshops 1 — 4
• No musical knowledge or training is needed. We will be using everyday language that anyone can understand.
• Workshops are progressive so we advise taking them in order to get the most out of the program.
• A real bandoneón in class! Fun!

BOOTCAMP PROGRAM
Workshop 1 (Sat, 12 pm – 1:30 pm): “Tango Rhythm.” The basic units of tango rhythm: simple, double and half time step. Why double time is NOT the same as syncopation and traspie. Recognizing these units in the music and using them while we dance. Even advanced dancers will be surprised at how much more there is to this than you realized!

Workshop 2 (Sat, 1:45 — 3:15 pm): “The Melody as a Rhythmic Element in Tango.” What does it means to “dance to the melody” in tango? Why do we dance the melody in tango? Differences between tango and other dances. Difference between dancing the basic rhythm and dancing the melody. How do we change the way we dance, from phrase to phrase, to express a melody’s unique pattern of rhythmic accents?

Workshop 3 (Sat, 3:45 — 5:15 pm): “Improvisation to the music, Level 1.” For people who did workshops 1and 2 and for people from previous years. Application of the material in workshops 1 & 2 in “real time” dancing.

Workshop 4 (Sun, 1 pm — 2:30 pm): “Vals and Milonga Rhythm Level 1.” The basic rhythmic units in Milonga and Vals. Their difference with tango rhythm. Simple and double-time step in Milonga. Simple and double-time step in Waltz. Difference between these rhythms and Tango rhythm.

Workshop 5 (Sun, 3 — 5 pm): “Musicality Seminar for Advanced Dancers.” Dancing to tangos with syncopation, 3-3-2 rhythm, off beat and different types of melodies. This workshops is in couples and directed to advanced dancers who have or have not done the previous courses. PLEASE MAKE SURE TO PRE-REGISTER for the Advanced Seminar.
